Military Ball
As per custom, there is a military formal ball held after every deployment. KC and I have wonderful friends that offered to watch the kids for us for the night because the event was being held at the Edelweiss Hotel and Resort located in Garmsich, Germany. Perfect! However, I left my camera in the hotel room, but here are some snap shots of us getting ready for the ball. With a stroke of luck and prayer, I managed to find someone to do my hair WITHOUT an appointment, the day of the ball! Crazy huh? So I felt wonderful with my hair up!
The night went well. There were a real troop of joker pilots at our table. Gotta love listening to a bunch of single soldiers who know how to make a girl laugh! They had their cameras so I am going to try to track some pics down!
We had the posting of the Colors, the Grog Bowl, for those of you who don't know what that is, google it. It takes to long to explain! =) Fabulous dinner and dancing until the wee hours of the morning!
I just have to add that being in the military or being married to the military is not easy. It never is easy. It can be many things, but easy is NOT one of them. And of course you are always proud, but on nights like the formal ball, with Dress Blues, military honors and band, surrounded by friends and colleagues who know as well as you the demands of such a life, you are happy and content to be in the company of such wonderful and dedicated people. It doesn't matter where you come from or what you come from, you feel like one of the elite. And indeed, these men and women who were gone last year, certainly deserved that title and all the celebration.
After all the wine and champagne had been drunk and the dancing DJ called it quits, we finally retired. Then it was up early the next day to set off in search of a beer that is only made down that a way in Germany and then we picked up the kids (and the new dog!)
We ended up getting some ideas for a day trip.....BEER RUN!! We must have passed at least six closter beer breweries! All of them have churches and abbeys to look at, as well as museums. It would be amazing to just take a day trip down and see what there is to see, and sample the spirits!
