I first met this family at mass, after Abigail's baptism. We met again on accident at a german restaurant after church one morning and boom, after that we just became good friends. She is the sweetest of ladies who helped me go to Lourdes and was my translator on many occasions! Catherine is Swiss and British by birth, she speaks german, french and english. Her husband, Patrick is a retired GI from New York who works on the American post at the teen center. They have been married for 21 years and have Douglas, Andrew, Jonathan and Phillip. Douglas is 19 and will be entering into basic training at Ft. Jackson this coming November, Andrew is 17 and will finish up American high school in Ansbach. Jonathan, 13, and Phillip, 11, both go to german school and are sweet. Because the two younger boys are on what is called sommer urlaub (summer break-which is about six weeks) they have been home playing with Thomas and Ben. And of course, all six of them bow down to the princess if she is not happy for any reason! (I tell you, they are helping to create a monster)
We got a treat one morning when one of Jonathans german friends, Daniel, came to spend the night (or as they call it in translated german-an overnight). Daniel wishes to become a chef in a few years and decided to cook us all a traditional german breakfast. Pretty darn sweet for a 13 year old!!! He doesn't speak any english so I got to have a lot of fun translating and trying to use what I have acquired over the last three years.
Ben with brotchen!
