Here on the American post in Bavaria, we are privileged enough to have a wonderful theatre and theatre director. Both the USO director and the Playhouse director are the same person. She and her husband, the local red cross coordinator, have lived here for almost 40 years. And their family just happens to go to mass with us every Sunday. So we are fortunate enough to get word of any act or play coming before the general public does. (hey it helps when you teach Confirmation to their teenagers).
Two weeks ago, they told us about the production of Beauty and the Beast. Its one of the few family plays that we can go to. You can't really take tots to Twelve Angry Men. We got a sitter for Abby, and we were headed out with the boys. However, about an hour before we were due to leave, Abby threw up all over the kitchen floor! I called, cancelled the sitter and KC opted (despite the fact that I knew if she did it again, he would be yelling "its ok baby girl, daddy's here!" from across the room because he literally CAN'T STAND vomit) to stay at home with her.
I took the boys and went out. The play, which was almost an exact word for word replica of the Disney movie, was great! It had lots of musical numbers and the kids were well behaved! The Battalion Commander's wife and the Brigade Commander's wife and their families were sitting behind us. At the end, when Bell tells the Beast she's in love with him...he is basically dying.
Poor Ben who was sitting on my lap almost the whole time, engrossed in the moment, was covering his ears and he yelled "Pause it! Pause it! Mommy pause it!!!" The audience, who had been up until that point, so quiet you could hear a pin drop, broke out laughing.
Guess I need to make sure he knows the difference between the movie and the on stage theatrical production!!! Everyone said it was the cutest thing they had heard in a long time! I love that little boy!!!
