Well it feels like summer down here. Hit the mid-eighties yesterday. KC and I and the boys decided to sneak off to Panama City this past weekend and try to catch an air show at Tyndall Air Force Base. However we were a little unintelligent in NOT checking our calenders and were stuck right in the middle of the beginning of SPRING BREAK and all the traffic that goes with it. We were stuck in line making it only about a 1/4 mile in an hour and half! We turned around and after waiting longer, we hit the beach for a couple hours instead. Thomas didn't like the water (it was still a little chilly) and after a while befriended some little girls playing on the beach, they were the only other small children out there. Once he got together with them he seemed to be enjoying himself. He built sandcastles and collected seashells and ran down to the water with them. They were 4 and 6 so he had a good time.
Needless to say there were also some very colorful people out on the beach! I saw at least 8 different university shirts as well as an array of gangster wannabes and trust fund babies and countless scantily clad sun-burned bodies everywhere you looked. We were there until about five and the beach wasn't that busy, we were told it gets a little more wild at night when the bars are all open! And to think, this was just the first day! :)
Thomas is having a great time in his preschool class. They made something called dirt babies, which is like a home made version of the Chia Pet. It looks really kinda cute. We put it in the sun window in the kitchen along with all my herbs. Fits right in! :) I was able to put in a small experimental garden on the back patio. I planted regular tomatoes, cherry and grape tomatoes, red and green bell peppers and jalapenos. Just to see if I could. Hopefully it will all start to give us some great stuff come the end of May beginning of June. (if the birds and bugs don't get to it first!)
For an update on Ben, he did enjoy the beach, but was with mom the whole time. He is a lot more mobile than when we first went to the beach. He wanted to crawl around the try to eat the sand so I had to hold him up. He didn't like the water, it sort of scared him, but I think when he gets a little bit older and can walk he will have a blast. That won't be long. Just in the last 2 weeks he has popped his first tooth, sat up on his own, crawled and pulled up on the couch. We had to drop the crib to its lowest level and he did not like that at all. But he is getting more cute and more vocal as the days pass. He loves to look at his reflection and plays with anything that makes a crinkly noise. Thomas is really good at making him giggle.
