RECAP

August 20, 2010
Thomas lost his very first tooth! I knew it was coming! We had difficulty getting it out at first (i.e. the tying the floss around it wouldn't work cause it kept coming off!) but it was so loose all dad had to do was get the pliers and give it a fast pull and it just came out! Thomas was excited. Years ago I bought a book that came included with a pillow that held the lost tooth, just for the tooth fairy. Also, there is a chart where you can write down what tooth was lost, when and where it happened and any special memories. This is a first for us! Thomas received one American dollar and one euro after the tooth fairy came and went. He had his friend Alex spend the night last week and it was funny to see that Alex has lost his top tooth! They were both very proud of their growing status! I, meanwhile am just crying.....after all, its another step closer to puberty!

Thursday September 2, 2010    Hello Mr. and Mrs. Minivan!!!!

KC and I knew we needed a second vehicle but were very hesitant to get one overseas. We have been waiting to get one until we get back stateside. However, we had a great deal just fall into our laps (or as I like to put it....my prayers were answered). We had to take the train north to meet the people selling their van to us. So now we are the proud owners of a Dodge Grand Caravan! Only a few years old, garaged most of that time with less than 20,000 miles on it! Not a scratch on it and very clean. The couple who had it before us were an older couple (mid seventies) with no kids or pet. Well, we will try to keep it up for as long as we can, but, eventually the children will break it in!

Sept 5-6, 2010  Labor Day!!!

On Sunday, we jumped in the van to drive over to the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) to go find a coo coo clock! For our anniversary this year, we decided that would be a nice addition to our home. We got down to a small little town near Triberg, the coo coo clock center of Germany, and though we made no reservation or anything, found a lovely Gast haus and Pension (restaurant and hotel) that had a beautiful room for us very in expensive. We ended up staying the night, finding our clock the next day. We did miss out on some natural things while there because the roads were being repaved and a few things were closed off. There is Germany's tallest waterfall, a few neat castles and of course more shopping centers! But its just a two hour jaunt in the car so we shall be heading back soon I hope! On the way home, we found a fruit stand and bought a few things (add that to our goodies already in the cooler) and sought our way out to a quiet section of the Black Forest. We parked, hiked for while, sat and ate. It is the most beautiful place!!! The forest that gave us the stories from the brothers Grimm was enchanting!!! The weather was amazing and Thomas and Ben and Abby had a wonderful time. After I gave them their history and geography lessons to explain where we were and why it was so amazing, they jumped up and ran around looking for trolls, nomes, unicorns, wood sprites or any other fictional character their father and I had told them about because it did have an eery (yet welcoming) magical feeling about the place!!!
