Spring kicks off the "Festival Season" here in Germany. They have festivals, carnivals, fairs and tons of other out of doors, open-air events. Historical sites open for all to visit and tourists come from everywhere. This season goes from Spring Volksfest all the way to Octoberfest which ends in September. So this past weekend we went to Nurnberg with our wonderful friends John and Shelly and their girls. It takes place right next to a building which was built by Hitler. He was going to rule the world from it. His headquarters, so to speak. Each room would represent a country of the world (at that time there were about two hundred) and he would over see it all from there. It stays there, unfinished to this day and you can still see bullet holes in it.
The day trip was a delight. Lots of rides, beer and the food was fanstastic! We had Schnitzel sandwiches, bratwursts, pretzels, candied apples, eis (ice cream), choclate and yogurt covered fruits (not all during the same sitting, over a period of like six hours). The boys rode several rides. I am happy to report that Thomas has NOT inherited my gift for getting sick while in motion. He rode several rides with Katie and Kelsy and not once did he feel like throwing up.
Ben got to ride the bumper cars with dad and he loved it. KC got to have three German mugs of beer and is now into collecting the cups from all the festivals we are at. Which is good because its a nice tradition. It was hot but we stayed cool by trying to ride rides in the shade and drinking lots of water. By the end of the day Ben had taken off his shoes and both of them were covered with ice cream. I tell all of you, we didn't even need to ask them to get ready for bed! They were asleep as we tucked them into bed after baths and teeth brushing. They wouldn't have heard the story I usually read even if they wanted too!
