Thomas is three today! He is still whirling from the last three days of euphoric gift giving and feasting! He received many wonderful things for his birthday, most of which were educational. KC and I decided to get him a nice set of building blocks and Grandma Chase got him Lincoln Logs. So of course, he is busy building up a storm and great big mess in the living room, but hey, what are living rooms for?
To celebrate, we packed a lunch of left over turkey sandwiches and drove down to Panama City, FL and visited a marine park called Gulf World in the morning. Ben obviously slept through most of it, but Thomas loved every second of it. There were sea turtles (which Thomas kept calling 'Crush' from the movie Finding Nemo), sharks, dolphins, alligators, sea otters, sea lions, penguins, tropical birds (parrots and flamingos), an aquarium theater of several different fish and finally snakes and lizards. Being the boy he is, Thomas loved the last ten minute show more than all the others. Even though we saw a sea lion do tricks and dolphins jump way up in the air and splash us in the wet section, he still really enjoyed the last part with lizards and snakes.
After that we made our way home and had home made cake and opened presents. It was a nice time.
Christmas was wonderful too. The weather didn't hold, it rained all night long on Christmas Eve and most of Christmas Day. So I didn't get to put out my candles on the sidewalk which I do every year. But we had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner, I did go ahead and make the Pirogi because KC took Thomas out of the house for a while and let me have some time in the kitchen. The seafood stew turned out even better this year because KC suggested we add bay scallops to the mix and it jazzed it up a bit. After eating in the early afternoon we battled the crowds at a children's mass and then looked at lights around the neighborhood.
Thomas and Ben both opened gifts Christmas Eve then in the morning got to open the gifts left in their stockings. Thomas was absolutely in heaven after getting a new bike (out growing his tricycle) and spider man pillowcase for his bed. Ben was in heaven just crinkling the wrapping paper! :) We cooked a nice turkey and stuffing and enjoyed the day.
We have all our Christmas cards taped on a special place on the wall in living room and we went through them all once again on Christmas. All in all, it was a quiet Christmas but a wonderful one.
